Under the leadership of their chairman James Ongwae (Kisii), the county bosses have declared their unwavering support for the push, which seeks to achieve constitutional reforms.

Ongwae on Thursday told the Standard that the county bosses (Kisii, Nyamira, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya and Migori) will use rallies to popularize the push among Kenyans.

He added that the county bosses have come together to push for a common goal in the President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga-led campaign.

"We, the leadership of the greater Nyanza region, do affirm our unwavering support for the BBI report. It is instructive to know that we sail in the same direction," he said.

The second-term governor said the first rally will be held in Kisii on January 10, and is expected to be attended by other political, religious, and youth leaders.

He said the leaders will camp in the county to receive Kenyan's opinions on the push, adding that the county bosses are also in support of the proposed referendum.

“We want to begin the new year with a journey to listen to more views arising from the BBI report and what the people want to be done,” he added.

Both Uhuru and Raila have also thrown their weight behind the referendum, opposing calls to have the parliament trusted with the implementation of the report.

Uhuru has since extended the tenure of the BBI taskforce, to enable it spearhead the BBI report public participation, an exercise set to kick off in the region.
