As the government steps up measures to fight desert locusts which have invaded over 8 counties in the country, Deliverance Church International’s Bishop Mark Kariuki is seeking divine intervention to drive the insects away.
Speaking during a meeting to mark the Church’s 50 years of existence at the Jomo Kenyatta sports ground in Kisumu on Thursday, Bishop Mark Kariuki said Kenya is not a place for locusts.
Drawing his sermon from the Bible’s book of Joel 2:25, the said the locusts should turn and go back to where they came from.
The verse says, “And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.”
“At the Kenyatta grounds Kisumu Kenya, we raise our fingers and tell all those locusts which have come from Somalia, Ethiopia, Yemen and other places to turn and go back to where they came from in Jesus name,” Bishop Mark Kariuki said amid a chorus of amen from those who attended the meeting.
“We cannot live together with locusts. We refuse,” he added during a sermon themed Restoration and Demonstration.
The locusts started invading sections of the country in December 2019.
They have so far spread in up to 11 counties, among them Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit, Meru, Embu, Isiolo, Laikipia, Samburu and Baringo.
