Nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi has sounded a warning to those scheming to scuttle efforts to unite members of the Luhya community with the rest of Kenyans.
Speaking on Wednesday in Kakamega, the outspoken Amani National Congress (ANC) MP said that such efforts would be resisted.
He held the view that individuals with selfish interests were behind the move.
"We will not allow individuals who every time the Luhya people want to unite with other Kenyans, they come out to oppose this (Na hatutakubali kamwe kwamba wakati jamii ya Waluhya wanataka kuwa pamoja na Wakenya wengine watu binafsi wanajitokeza na kupinga hiyo mpango)," the nominated senator said.
Osotsi's strong words come amid divisions among Western Kenya leaders over the Bukhungu Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting slated for 18, January.
His position on the BBI and his decision to support the ODM candidate in the Kibra parliamentary by-election saw him kicked out of the ANC party.
ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator have vowed not to attend the meeting, saying that it is aimed at endorsing a particular presidential candidate.
The two leaders had planned to hold two meetings in Mumias to rival the BBI meeting but the permits issued to them were revoked over what law enforcement authorities described as serious security concerns.
