The leader of Abagusii community in the diaspora Samuel Okemwa has taken a swipe at Raila Odinga, accusing him of changing tact to the benefit of graft lords.
Mr Odinga joined hands with President Uhuru Kenyatta in March 2018, after months of running battles that saw dozens lose lives due to police brutality.
And Okemwa, a close ally of Mr Odinga, accuses him of protecting Uhuru, who he condemns of harboring corruption and gross incompetence.
The seasoned diaspora opposition coordinator insisted that Handshake has given conducive environment for cartels to loot public resources.
"We have no leaders. Even those in opposition have lost tract. They are working with government to look. Handshake was a curse. It has ruined our lives," he said.
Okemwa added: "It has given Uhuru unnecessary peace of mind. He is growing big as companies fold up in Kenya. We need to condemn this kleptocratic regime."
Okemwa's latest move is a blow to Odinga given his influence among thousands of Abagusii in the diaspora. At times, he's credited for supervising campaigns in Gusii.
For months, Raila has defended handshake, arguing that it gave a conducive environment in the war against corruption given that nobody is spared across the board.
In 2017, Okemwa and a host of Abagusii community members in the diaspora often visited Raila at Capitol Hill to brief him about campaign progress.
