BBC has reported that hundreds of demonstrators clashed with security officers resulting in a number of arrests due to dissent against the government.

The demonstrations sparked a rare uproar against the government of President al-Sisi after stable spell since he came into power through a military coup in 2013.

The protest began on Friday in Tahrir Square in Cairo and in the port city of Suez and spread to other towns.

President Al- Sisi denied the allegations labelled against him, terming them as 'lies and slanders,' as reported by the NYTimes, even as his government was caught unaware when protests escalated from social media to the streets; with demonstrators defying his ban order on demos, amidst punitive measure against dissenting voices to his rule.

It is believed that the protest began on social media after a former contractor turned a whistleblower, Mohamed Ali posted on Facebook videos, as he accused Sisi and other government officials for misusing public coffers according to CNN and now the protestors want Sisi out.

Mohamed has since sought exile in Spain where he posts the videos; for fear of persecution, as Sisi regime does not condone any dissent or freedom of expression.
