President Uhuru Kenyatta has eulogized the late veteran politician Charles Rubia as "an icon of Kenya's vibrant multi-party democracy."
In a tweet on Monday, Uhuru described the veteran as a politician that contributed a lot towards the fight for multi-party democracy in Kenya.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence and comfort to the family, friends, and relatives of veteran politician Charles Wanyoike Rubia who died today aged 96. The President eulogized the former Minister as an icon of Kenya's vibrant multi-party democracy." Statehouse tweeted.
Other leaders that have mourned the former minister include ODM party leader Raila Odinga and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Sonko described how sad it is to lose the veteran and he, therefore, sends his condolences to his family, friends together with the relatives.
"It's with great sadness to learn the passing on of veteran politician and former Cabinet Minister, Charles Rubia. On behalf of my family and Nairobi residents, I send my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the veteran politician," Sonko wrote
Sonko added: Mr Rubia will be remembered as the first African Mayor of Nairobi City and also for his key role in the struggle for multi-party democracy in Kenya in the early 90s. May his soul Rest in Peace.
