Speaking to Hivisasa, Matungulu deputy county commissioner Gerald Omoke observed that close to seventy homesteads have been affected.

"The area is flooded, last night some people were forced to climb to the rooftops of their buildings because they were marooned by the waters. Vehicles were swept by the waters and also the property was destroyed," said Omoke.

He, however, said that no casualties have been recorded following the incident and went further to urge residents in the area to temporarily evacuate and seek refuge in their friends or relatives' houses until the rain goes down.

"Luckily we don't have any casualties and even the destruction is minimal. The water levels have gone down and we don't have a specific place to take the people. Since the rains are on we have advised them to seek refuge in their relatives or friend's home," He said.

He said that the Red Cross society and Special Programmes department has been contacted to bring humanitarian help to the affected families.
