A Kenya Revenue Authority employee was on December 29 found dead in his rented house in Kakamega.
Meshack Keith Bwisa , 27, was working in the registry department in Kakamega offices before his death.
The deceased's family said he did not show up for Christmas celebrations which prompted them to look for him on the 29th.
However, when they visited his rented house, they found his door locked from inside but he could not respond to their calls.
Upon alerting the police, they forced entry into his house and found his lifeless body.
Police source said there was a jiko that had charcoal ashes inside the house, an indication the deceased could have died after inhaling poisonous gas from the burning jiko.
“The body had swollen and decomposed. It is likely Bwisa died on the night of December 25, 2019,” said Kakamega Central OCPD David Kabena.
The OCPD further said the suicide note was found beside his body.
“There was a suicide note placed next to his body. In the letter, Bwisa blamed frustrations arising from unsuccessful bets as the reason for his suicidal ideation. In the note, he also advised the youth and his family members to refrain from betting, saying it ends up impoverishing people,” added Kabena.
On Tuesday the OCPD could not confirm not tell whether the autopsy had been done on the deceased's body to confirm what caused his death.
“I am on leave now, but I will confirm and get back to you," Kabena said.
