Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has confirmed that his wife of 39 years Adelaide Khalwale did did not succumb to cancer as reported.

Mrs Khalwale died on Saturday morning in the death that caught the nation unaware. Khalwale had planned a host of activities on Saturday.

Addressing the media on Saturday, Khalwale revealed that his first wife has been struggling with diseases and was treated of cervical cancer in 2003.

Years after recovering, she again developed blood cancer. She was treated and when tests were done this week, it was discovered that she had recovered.

Just two days ago, he said, she was detected with pulmonary hypertension and out on treatment until her death on Saturday morning.

"I wish to announce to members of my extended family that my wife Adelaide is dead. She was first diagnosed with cervix cancer in 2003 but ironically, this morning, she had died not from cancer

"She was out on chemotherapy and she recovered. She again this year developed blood cancer and it was treated and we confirmed this week. She developed pulmonary hypertension and she's succumbed to it," he said.

Until her death, she has been working as a staff member in the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in Kakamega County.

Dr Khalwale is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and had lined up activities on Saturday in Malava, Navakholo and Lurambi for campaigns.
