Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen arrived at the office of the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) moments after the arrest of Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.
The senator has since poked holes into the arrest. He has faulted the office of DCI following the arrest of Rotich. DCI had ordered for the arrest of Rotich and other 27 government officials over the dam scandal.
The senator has termed the arrest as stage-managed. He claims that CS is only a victim of circumstances after an order for his arrest was issued.
"I have looked at the charge sheets and I can tell you the entire thing is a charade," he said.
While ordering for his arrest, DPP Haji said that individuals mismanaging funds meant for the public are abusing of office. He noted that he will not tolerate corrupt persons.
"Public corruption is a blatant abuse of power by persons in positions of authority and it threatens the very fabric of our society. Nobody is above the law no matter how powerful," he said.
The arrest has elicited mixed reactions from different factions. Rotich and other officials linked to the saga risk losing their jobs if they are proven guilty of the offenses leveled against them.
