Kisii county woman representative Janet Ong'era has hit out those a section of politicians from Gusii region opposing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
The county MP while speaking at a church service at Bunyunyu SDA Church in West Mugirango, Nyamira County challenged the leaders to respect the handshake between ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"It is through the handshake that in this country we have peace thus the BBI was born. A section of leaders from the Gusii community opposing the BBI is the enemy," she stated.
According to the vocal lawmaker, those opposing the BBI have selfish interests with the aim of remaining in power to enrich themselves while poor electorates continue suffering.
"We will not continue having our people suffering at the expense of some few individuals. As a community we should support the BBI which I believe will accommodate every community," she said.
Ms Ong'era challenged women to vie for various political seats in future to increase the number of women in leadership.
The MP had accompanied Kisii Governor James Ongwae and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi to a fund drive which was being hosted by West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi.
