An elderly man has allegedly committed suicide to avoid police arrest.
The 53-year-old man from Kitoben village, Bomet County took his own life after realizing that the police were hunting him.
Reports quoted by Nairobi News indicate that the police had issued an arrest warrant for the man, who had allegedly defiled a minor.
Surprisingly, the five-year-old girl, whom he is said to have rapped is his niece.
The girl was taken to the hospital where medical reports showed that she indeed had been defiled.
She was put under treatment and also given HIV prevention medicines just in case she had been infected.
According to the Area Assistant Chief Philip Cheruiyot, the man, whose names have not been revealed, has been on the run since committing the alleged crime.
A police report indicates that he went into hiding two weeks ago.
Cheruiyot pointed out that the deceased body was found hanging from a tree.
According to how his body was found, he seems to have undressed before hanging himself, as his clothes were found under the tree.
The deceased body was brought down and taken to Longisa Referral Hospital morgue.
