The Directorate of Criminal Investigation on Wednesday impounded six vehicles in a crackdown on tax evasion.

Three of the vehicles were Mercedes' while the rest were Range Rovers. Preliminary reports indicate that they were smuggled into the country under unclear circumstances.

"6 motor vehicles were impounded by @DCI_Kenya Serious Crime Unit Detectives in a resolute operation on smuggled vehicles. The vehicles; 3 Mercedes-Benzes & 3 Range Rovers were confirmed to have been stolen from their countries of origin/smuggled into the country for Tax Evasion," DCI said.

A probe into the incident also showed that one of the Mercedes Benz originated from South African while one of the Range Rovers was obtained from the United Kingdom.

"Further investigations by INTERPOL established that one of the Mercedes Benzes was robbed from Mrs Tshegofasto Mabyane in South Africa & one of the Range Rovers was reported stolen in the UK. The 2 vehicles to be handed over to #INTERPOL for further processing|@SAPoliceService," DCI retorted.

DCI also said that the three of the automobiles were being processed as Semi Trailers while the Range Rover had a Toyota Probox number plate.

"Three of the vehicles were found to have Evaded Tax as they were processed as semi trailers & one Range Rover had a Toyota Probox Registration Number. Motor vehicles to be handed over to @ntsa_kenya & @KRACorporate for Proper processing. All perpetrators to be charged accordingly," DCI added.
