ANC nominated lawmaker Godfrey Osotsi has blamed Deputy President William Ruto for the rebellion being faced by President Uhuru Kenyatta in his (Uhuru) Mt Kenya backyard.
The MP says that the DP is financing the rebellion in the region for his political benefits, claiming that he is fueling the situation using his proxies.
Osotsi opines that the DP us trying to use his backing among area politicians blackmail the president into backing his 2022 bid, by using them to frustrate Uhuru's development agenda.
“Every time Uhuru tries to get Mt Kenya to focus on his agenda, Ruto takes them back to the politics of 2022. I think he is trying to use Mt Kenya to blackmail Uhuru to support him in 2022,” he said on Saturday.
Osotsi claims that thanks to Ruto's manipulation, Ruto's allies from the region have ignored Uhuru's anti-politicking directives and are instead acting as Ruto's mouthpieces.
He says that what comes from the politicians us no longer about development but what is good for the DP and his political moves.
"The speeches made by the MPs are choreographed and largely mirror his (Ruto's) thinking and agenda. They have ignored the President's directive to stop politicking," he added.
This comes at a time when the DP's support base in the region appears to be growing, his latest catch being Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, who is Uhuru's MP.
His allies have said that their decision to work with Ruto should not be questioned, as its Uhuru to introduced him to them in the run-up to the 2013 general elections.
