The Cyprus Government has threatened to withdraw the passports of billionaire Humphrey Kariuki and his wife Stella Nasike over tax evasion claims.
The duo is among the 26 Kenyans on the Cypriot government’s radar as the war against tax evasion gains momentum.
The move is likely to be effected soon basing on reports from media houses in Cyprus.
“Chinese national Zhang Shumin, reportedly linked to a gold scam, his wife and three children are on the same list as well as Kenyan Humphrey Kariuki Ndegwa, believed to be involved in a financial scam and his wife,” read a statement from the Cypriot government as quoted by Nation
The Cypriot government has been investigating several cases of foreigners reportedly involved in tax evasion.
This is after it emerged that a number of its citizens who hold dual citizenship have reportedly been entangled in investigations related to tax evasion.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has been investigating Kariuki over tax evasion.
In a past address, Haji said he has enough evidence against the accused.
The business tycoon is accused of evading tax amounting to Sh41 billion, a claim he has completely dismissed.
