Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has called for humanitarian support following a landslide that claimed ver 20 lives in West Pokot.
The MP also said that he was stranded after flash floods cut off Chesogon Bridge
Sudi together with his colleagues Peter Lochakapong (Sigor) Kangogo Bowen (Marakwet East), William Kamket (Tiaty) and several MCAs from West Pokot and Elgeiyo Marakwet counties on Saturday visited the scenes where the landslide had been reported in Sigor Constituency.
“Unfortunately, we are now stranded here at Chesogon Bridge where the water has cut off the bridge. We are appealing for humanitarian support and that of the government to at least secure us with means of transport to the scene,” the vocal MP said in a post on his Facebook page.
“We also call upon the national and county governments to help the affected families move from vulnerable grounds to safe zones. Well, wishers are invited to offer clothing, food, shelter, health services among other needs,” he added.
The MP further said that West Pokot Governor John Lonyang'apuo was also stranded in Sebit due to a bridge collapse and heavy rainfall on the other side of the constituency as he also headed to the scene.
According to Sudi areas that are mostly affected are Nyarkulian in Tapach Ward, Penon in Batei Ward and Muino in Weiwei Ward.
