Kisii Governor James Ongwae on Tuesday lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for nominating city lawyer Gerishom Otachi Bw'Omanwa as the chairperson of National Land Commission (NLC).
In a tweet, the Kisii boss congratulated Otachi for being outstanding.
"On behalf of the residents of Kisii County, I thank H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta for nominating on merit the renowned lawyer Gerishom Otachi Bw'Omanwa to the position of Chairperson, National Land Commission (NLC). Congratulations @Gerishom for this well deserved nomination," said Mr Ongwae.
On Monday, the head of state nominated other eight members to the NLC commission.
They are; former Nyeri Town MP Esther Murugi, former Labour CS Kazungu Kambi, Prof James K. Tuitoek, Getrude Nduku Nguku, Reginald Okumu, Hubbie Hussein Al-Haji, Alister Murimi Mutugi and former Isiolo Woman Representative Tiya Galgalo.
National Assembly's Lands Committee will now determine the fate of the commission nominated by Uhuru.
If they approve the names, Otachi will take over from Dr Muhammad Swazuri who ended his six years' term back in February this year.
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi confirmed receiving the names of Uhuru nominated members.
“Standing Order 45 requires that upon receipt of notification of nomination for appointments such nominations shall stand committed to the relevant departmental committee,” said Muturi.
