Dozens of ruling National Resistance Movement MPs have been blocked from attending a party conference scheduled later on this month.
President Yoweri Museveni is said to have asked the NRM leadership to block the defiant MPs for failing to endorse scrapping of the age limit.
This was revealed by the NRM’s Secretary-General, Justine Kasule Lumumba during the second meeting of the 3rd National Conference.
“The national chairman for NRM gave guidance that for those Members of Parliament who did not move with the party when we were having Constitutional amendments will not be invited and therefore we don't expect them to attend the national conference,” she said.
Dozens of government-allied MPs opposed the changes, which were eventually passed unanimously by the house.
Museveni pushed for the scrapping of the age limit, effectively putting him on the political scene, given that anybody can now contest for the polls.
NRM, which helped him to clinch power in 1986, is expected to hold a conference on 25th at Namboole stadium ahead of 2021 polls.
Museveni is set to face off with Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, the Kyadondo East MP and Dr Kizza Besigye, the veteran opposition leader.
