The Commission for University (CUE) has received a report on the questionable 118 PhDs awarded at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) during the latest graduation ceremony.
Confirming the receiving of the report, CUE chief executive officer Mwenda Ntarangwi said that the commission will take some time to examine the same before making its final decision after the public and different education stakeholders raised concern over the high number of PhDs awarded in a single celebration.
Ntarangwi said that the commission will be in a position to advise the management of the institution after the report has been analysed to the latter.
He, however, refused to share the details of the report.
“We had demands that we put to the university to fulfil and we will be looking at them in the coming days,” Prof Ntarangwi, as quoted by Daily Nation.
JKUAT was put on the spot over the failure to follow the required procedures following the awarding of the degrees.
The commission gave the Senate at the institution a period of three months to release a report on the award of the PhDs after some illegalities and irregularities were suspected to have taken place.
The management has maintained that nothing fishy took place before the award of the same.
