There was shock in Murang’a County Referral Hospital after a man who was recently rescued after taking poison hanged himself to death in the hospital.
The sad incident happened on Sunday when Lamek Muhia, the deceased hanged himself using bedsheets to death in one of the ward's toilet.
Confirming the incident, Josephat Kinyua, Murang’a County Police Commander noted that they received the sad news and sent his officers who moved the deceased's body to the hospital's morgue.
The Commander appealed to young people to seek advice from their friends whenever they feel depressed.
“Cases of the suicide of people aged below 40 are on the rise and we advise young people to seek help and advice from members of the clergy, community leaders and psychologists instead of taking their lives,” the commander appealed.
On his part Muranga medical superintendent, Dr Leonard Gikera stated that they found the body of the deceased dangling in one of the ward's showers and couldn't ascertain the reason why the man opted to end his life.
“For now we cannot be able to establish what pushed the patient to take his life. It’s like he was determined to kill himself since he had tried to take poison, an attempt that flopped,” noted Gikera.
The family of the deceased is yet to be reached.
