Chief Justice David Maraga has assured Kenyans of the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring court cases are heard at a faster pace than before.
Speaking Wednesday during the opening of a workshop on cyber-crime and electronic evidence at Radisson Blu Hotel, Nairobi, Maraga said that the adoption of technology within the judiciary is a breakthrough in the fight to ensure cases are heard and determined.
He admitted that in the past cases have been taking long but this time around it is going to be different. He noted that the Judiciary has been working around the clock to ensure case backlog is a thing of the past following the adoption of technology in the sector.
He also said that the application of technology will ensure that there is integrity in the judicial system, adding that the use of paper made the process cumbersome and time consuming.
Maraga also said that some of the challenges such as the loss of records within the judiciary will no longer be witnessed because he intends to ensure that all courts embrace the same.
“Handling of records in cases of voluminous records in regard to petitions, one needs a lot of space, but if we move to the digital front, a judge can download the files he needs and move with them to their home and write the judgment at the comfort of their homes and much faster,” said Mr Maraga, as quoted by Daily Nation.
In the past, Kenyans have been lamenting over delay of cases in court, which has affected their fight for justice under different circumstances.
