In a blistering tweet on Sunday accompanied by a photo of Deputy President William Ruto, Gachoka said those priests should be ashamed of themselves, adding that they are as corrupt as the politicians they are receiving the loot from.

He went on to add that he was fully behind the Catholic church's ban on politics in its churches across the country.

Gachoka contended that the fundraisers in churches were encouraging corruption.

"I join the Bishops of my Church in saying No to corruption in the guise of harambees. Those pastors and  priests easily taken to receive such handouts are as guilty as the corrupt; they are enablers of the mass looting of our country. Shame on you!" Gachoka wrote on Twitter.

The subject of politicians engaging in politics while in church continues to dominate the national discourse with a section of Kenyans calling on churches to impose a total ban on politics in church.

Politicians have been seen on numerous occasions trading fire in church with the most recent incident being the scuffle at a Kiharu church that saw area Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro take on the so-called Kieleweke legislators.
