Garissa Women Representative Anab Subow Gure has distributed textbooks in an effort to improve the students’ performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
The office of the Women Rep through Help Charity Organization Dadaab, issued 80 Chemistry and Biology textbooks to Alinjuqur Secondary School.
Gure hopes that by distributing the books, it will help to instill a reading culture in the students and improve their general performance in class and in the National exams.
Some of the schools in Garissa lack enough textbooks which has affected their performance in school.
Gure said the textbooks will go a long way to boost education in the school and prepare learners for better academic performance.
“These textbooks will go a long way in alleviating the needs of textbooks by our students and in turn boost their performance in the National Examinations,” posted Gure on Facebook.
Garissa County has not been performing well in National exams which forced Garissa Township MP Aden Duale to ask the Education Ministry to investigate mass failure by students from the region.
A section of leaders from the region have attributed the poor performance to a mass exodus of non-local teachers as a result of insecurity due to Al-Shabaab attacks in North Eastern region.
