In a tweet on Saturday, the county boss called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Kenya Police Service to swing into action.

She said that the violence that was being meted out on the victim was unacceptable.

"This is completely unacceptable. Gender based violence cannot be tolerated and must stop. I appeal to @DCI_Kenya @NPSOfficial_KE to take action on this matter. @citizentvkenya #kajiadoEastmatt, " the Kirinyaga county boss wrote.

The video, according to social media accounts, is believed to have been taken at Eastmatt Supermarket in Kajiado County.

A man is seen slapping the cashier who is a lady in the unsettling video.

It was not immediately clear why the man resorted to assaulting the lady in the glare of CCTV cameras.

At the time of writing this story, the DCI and other law enforcement bodies had not responded to the appeal for action to be taken.

A section of social media users has described the incident as gender-based violence.

Waiguru has been at the forefront of raising awareness about gender-based violence and calling for strong action to be taken against men who assault women.
