Chief Justice David Maraga has today hit out at the government for failing to accord him the respect he deserves as the President of the Judiciary.
Addressing the media, the CJ outlined a number of instances where the state sidelined his office, and gave priority to other government institutions.
He noted that recently when his office applied for the CJ to be issued with a Merceded Benz 2500cc, the application was turned down.
He further noted that there was a ploy to take away the CJ's traffic clearance, but the same did not materialise.
"The CJ has no Mercedes. When we applied we were told to keep to 2500cc…Yet the two speakers of the National Assembly have Mercedes 500," he said.
"You read recently attempts to withdraw police traffic clearance from the CJ, but clearance was given to very junior officers and were told it was a mistake. A mistake? That is very interesting," he added.
Lastly, he noted that during the last Mashujaa Day, the master of ceremony did not acknowledge him as he walked it, yet he acknowledged the rest.
"The last Mashujaa Day, the CJ was allowed to walk to the dais through a side walk and the MC did acknowledge his arrival but he did it to other people," he said.
The CJ demanded to be treated with the respect due to his office, saying that his decision to attend state functions would be subject to respect accorded to him.
