A counsellor who has been looking after Martin Kamotho alias 'Githeri Man' has raised alarm about his condition, saying that he is worsening by the day.
Sergeant Moses Kimenchu says that the rehabilitation process he had been initially put under has not been of any help as he went back to drinking immediately after.
Kimenchu noted that his recent visit to Kamotho on Monday left him convinced that he is worsening, saying that he has entered the habitual stage 5 of his alcoholism.
He said that Githeri Man needs urgent medical treatment, only shortly after he graduated from a rehabilitation centre in Kiambu county.
“The man requires urgent medical attention, mentorship and counselling before his case gets out of hand,” he Kimenchu said in an interview with Daily Nation.
He had visited him after seeing images where he was photographed lying dead drunk on a trolley.
The counsellor also proposed the relocation of Githeri Man from his Kayole home to keep him off negative influence and a job to help him overcome his frustration.
“Even after rehabilitation, Mr Kamotho went back to his usual living area. There was no follow up from the rehab’s management, and then the man was already frustrated by the various sponsors who had hired him to advertise their products but failed to pay him yet people perceive him as a rich man. He must have turned back to drinking to run away from criticism and questions,” Kimenchu noted.
Githeri Man shoot to fame after he was pictured carrying githeri in a plastic paper bag as he lined up to vote during the 2017 general elections.
