Two people, a police officer and a G4S staff were on Monday arrested for threatening to rob a bartender.
The two, Constable Elly Nyakomita, attached to Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) in Embu and G4S’s Seth Odhiambo allegedly used handcuffs to scare Euphemia Akinyi, a bartender at H.E.N.U Club which is located in Obama estate off Kangundo Road.
However, Akinyi raised an alarm and police officers on patrol responded quickly and arrested the two.
Investigations have been launched into the incidence. The handcuffs were also confiscated as evidence.
“The investigations are to establish if they had intended to commit robbery or they were just acting out of drunkenness. Drunkenness is, however, not excuse for crime,” a senior officer aware of the investigation told K24 Digital.
Akinyi told the police that the two had several drinks at the bar.
She noted that she was shocked after the police officer produced handcuffs and asked money threatening to arrest her in their stupor state.
It was when she called for help and by good luck, police officers on patrol heard her cries.
The incident comes at a time several police officers have been arrested in connection to criminal cases.
Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai last week directed that all officers who have been at their current stations for more than three years should be transferred to curb cases of criminal activities among the police.
