Kisumu County Government has commenced construction of a water supply project that will address water challenges facing the county.
Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o on Thursday presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Nyakach Water Supply System Project at Sigoti, Nyakach Sub County.
In a post on his Facebook page, Nyong'o said that the project will increase water supply coverage in Kisumu and also improve the quality of life for Kisumu residents.
“The idea is to rehabilitate and augment Nyakach Water Supply System the project scope being, construction of 400M^3 water tank, rehabilitation of the water intake at Sondu River by replacing two low lift pumps, construction of pipelines and water kiosks, capacity building on hygiene and sanitation and covering operation and maintenance cost,” he wrote on Facebook.
County Executive of Water Salmon Orimba on his part said the county government is in the process of providing safe and clean drinking water to residents.
“The completion of this project in a few months time will see over 20,000 households benefiting from clean and safe water supply,” said Orimba.
The project will be funded by the Kisumu County Government and Living Water Service Centre (LWSC).
