Judges at the Kisumu Court of Appeal have adjourned all cases until the beginning of next year (2020), in honour of their departed colleague, Justice Otieno Odek.
Odek was found dead inside his apartment in Kisumu on Monday, with detectives already investigating the matter to establish cause of death.
Justice Asikhe Makhandia of the Kisumu appellate court, on Tuesday divulged that the court will not be hearing any cases until January next year, as a show of respect to the deceased.
"In honour and respect to our departed colleague, we will adjourn all our sittings until January next year," he said at the Aga Khan Hospital, where Odek's body is being preserved.
Among the cases set to be affected include one involving former President Daniel Moi, where he appealed an Eldoret High Court ruling on a land row between him and a former MP.
In the case, Eldoret Environment and Land Judge Anthony Omabywo ruled against Moi, in a case pitting him against Noah Chelugui.
The court ordered Moi to pay the complainant a sum of Sh1 billion for the 53-acre land in Eldoret, but the former president appealed the decision.
