Lenaola, 52, joined the Supreme Court in 2016 and he's one of the youngest judges sitting in the Apex court of the country.

While receiving the award, Lenaola focused on the fight against corruption, asking Kenyans to take individual responsibility.

"It's time we took the fight against graft seriously and we must give Judiciary tools to fight it as a country," said Justice Lenaola.

He thanked friends and family members including his wife for standing with him throughout his legal profession.

"This lady has been my pillar and my rock for the last 21 years. She has suffered my absence many times while I am away on duty," said Justice Lenaola.

The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya) thanked him “for consistently, fearlessly and impartially espousing values and ideals that have immensely contributed to the promotion and protection of human rights, the rule of law, justice and democracy in Kenya and the Africa region.”

In 2018, the award went to the renowned judge George Odunga who spent several years at Milimani Law Courts before being transferred to Machakos.

Lenaola is the only Supreme Court Judge who has never had any petition instigated against him by any member of the public for removal.
