The CS says that just like ODM leader Raila Odinga and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka, there is need for Mudavadi to unite with the government side.

The two, who challenged Uhuru on a single presidential ticket in the 2017 polls have since dropped their opposition to his leadership and embraced his government.

Speaking on Thursday, Wamalwa urged people from Western Kenya not to bar Mudavadi from following suit in joining Uhuru.

On his side, Mudavadi requested Western Kenya locals not to confine him to the region and let him seek national backing for his 2022 presidential bid.

"I am in the race in 2022. I will fight and we must extend the hand of friendship beyond the borders of western,” said Mudavadi as quoted by Daily Nation.

The leaders spoke during the Maragoli cultural festival at Mbale Municipal Grounds in Vihiga county.

Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi, who was also present, suggested that Mudavadi's closeness with Uhuru lately has something to do with his ambition.

Initially, Mudavadi who was also in the Raila-Kalonzo camp in the run up to the 2017 polls, repeatedly fired attacks at Uhuru's government, taking issue with the rising debts levels.

Last month, during the lauch of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report in Nairobi, he challenged the government to focus on unemployment among the youth.
