Towards 2017 polls, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i was tasked to not only deliver presidential votes for Uhuru Kenyatta, but also win seats for Jubilee in Gusii.
NASA leaders came out guns blazing, accusing Dr Matiang'i of engaging in campaigns despite being a civil servant, contrary to the law.
But in Nyamira, a spirited Matiang'i, PS Susan Mocheche, and Solicitor General Ken Ogeto were determined to have all NASA aspirants defeated.
In their game plan, vocal Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire and Ben Momanyi of Borabu would be casualties. The two had given Jubilee hard times.
During a function at Kebirichi in 2017, Matiang'i hailed Kitutu Masaba residents for voting out Bosire, arguing that he was a development saboteur.
"He can't call me development saboteur and rig my victory. These are the people who have frustrated development by using excessive force," Bosire responded.
But at Borabu, Matiang'i's formidable team, then supporting Patrick Osero, failed to topple Mr Momanyi as MP for the constituency.
In a past interview, Momanyi admitted that there were external forces pushing for his defeat, adding that he was prepared for them.
"I was aware of what the minister was doing. I was equally prepared to deal with them squarely. You can't beat me in the game that I have been for a long time," he said.
Despite the differences that the polls caused, Matiang'i and Momanyi have since reconciled. Momanyi is pushing Matiang'i to run for presidency.
Recently, he hosted a huge delegation at his Borabu home where a resolution was reached to have Matiang'i endorsed as Gusii community kingpin.
