Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri now claims that the Deputy President William Ruto-allied Tangatanga faction of the ruling Jubilee Party is the new opposition.
The group which is largely made up of lawmakers from Central Kenya has not been in good terms with President Uhuru Kenyatta lately due to its questions on his leadership.
The MP now says that the group has done a good job on matters oversight of government operations, and has recorded major achievements for the sale of Kenyans.
In a press conference in Nakuru on Wednesday, he claimed that Tangatanga has done a better job than the pro-Uhuru Kielweke faction, terming Tangatanga the new opposition.
"We spoke out on challenges facing coffee, tea and dairy sectors and were termed as defiant. We challenged the National Health Insurance Fund rules and were told off. In the end, the president did as we demanded. We are now the official opposition but within the ruling party," he claimed.
The group's activities have not been approved by President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has repeatedly castigated its members for engaging in unending politicking.
Last year, be accused the group members, who are allies to his deputy William Ruto, of disrespecting and insulting him in public rallies.
Ngunjiri's remarks also come at a time when the country is operating without an active opposition, after Uhuru's March 2018 truce with ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
