Former presidential candidate and renowned scholar Prof James Ole Kiyiapi has contended that politicians who have been active since 1990s are political children of the so-called dynasties.
The scholar made the contention in a Friday tweet as he appeared to make the argument that politicians who were supported by the dynasties are no different from the dynasties themselves.
"All Kenyan politicians on the scene today and who have been in ACTIVE politics since 1990s may NOT be blood children of DYNASTIES but they are in every respect POLITICAL children of the dynasties. Let us DEBUNK this false dichotomy of DYNASTIES vs their ADOPTED children!" He tweeted.
There have been calls from various quarters that the families that have been in politics since independence need to pave the way for others.
The Kenyatta and Odinga families are widely regarded as dynasties given their firm grip on the politics of the country.
Both have rejected the claim that their family names have played a huge part in their political fortunes, saying that they are their own men.
Politicians seeking top office who are not members of the two families try to style themselves as not being part of the dynasties in a bid to sway the voters.
