A 30-year-old man died on Wednesday after he was stabbed to death at a local bar in Bondo town, Siaya.
Confirming the incident, Siaya County Police Commander Francis Kooli said the man identified as Velly Omondi was stabbed by another man following a disagreement outside the Sevens Bar and Grill.
Speaking on Thursday, Kooli said they are pursuing the assailant who escaped from the scene adding that they have launched investigations into the motive behind the 11:15 am attack.
Kooli said the suspect is a well-known person in the area and that the police managed to recover a penknife from the scene which is believed to have been used to commit the crime.
The police boss said Omondi who died on the spot was stabbed several times with a knife in the chest head and stomach.
The assailant who escaped on foot stabbed Omondi to death after an altercation over a woman.
“It was reported to police in Bondo town that someone had been murdered outside the bar. Our officers rushed to the scene and when they arrived, they found the body lying in a pool of blood with visible multiple stab wounds on the chest, head, neck and upper limbs.”
“The suspect is known but still at large. We have launched investigations to establish the reason for the killing,” said Kooli.
The body has been moved to Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
