Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has launched a scathing attack at Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi after his chopper en route to West Pokot landed in Eldoret over bad weather.
In a tweet, Murkomen said that he is shocked by the fact that Deputy President William Ruto can access the area yet the CS can claim the weather is not suitable for his landing.
The senator also said that the PS Environment Charles Sunkuli and his counterpart in the Ministry of Devolution and Planning, Micha Powon have colluded to deny the victims of the landslide food yet they are suffering after the calamity.
He also hit out at Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya for not making it to the scene of the incident because of poor weather conditions.
"We are Kapenguria to see victims of the landslide. Weather not good for Matiangi’s chopper. Meanwhile, PS Powon&Sunkuli have locked the food &clothes for victims inside a store&ran away with the keys to join Natembeya&Matiangi in planning for the most important BBI. Residents to break in," he tweeted.
Earlier on, Murkomen urged the residents to relocate to safer places. The death toll from the incident has risen to 52 persons with several reported to be missing since the rains started pouring. The government has dispatched KDF officers to the region to counter the calamity.
