Political commentator Gerald Bitok has said that the leadership crisis being witnessed in Nairobi County is deliberate and human inflicted.
The county has since been thrown into confusion after Governor Mike Sonko, who lacks a deputy was barred from accessing his office by the court.
Bitok now says that what is being witnessed must have been the intention of Sonko, who he says must have predicted his woes.
He says that having worked with Sonko before, he thinks he delayed picking a deputy in readiness for such times and wants to ensure that nobody else runs the county in his absence.
"I have worked with him and he is a man always alert. He predicted trouble coming, knew they will come for him so he denied the people options (Mimi nimekaa na Sonko na nimeona ni mtu huwa chonjo kila wakati. Aliangalia akaona mambo inakuja; alijuwa atakujiwa so akanyima hawa watu option)," he said.
Bitok spoke on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Wednesday night, where he observed that Sonko might have also played a role in his former deputy Polycarp Igathe's exit.
He pointed out that even if he were to be forced to pick a deputy now, the division in the county assembly, which must vet and approve the appointee, will frustrate this move.
Bitok said that in the same breath, it will be hard for the house to impeach him to force for a by-election, as the governor commands some support in the divided house.
"Even if he picks a deputy, where will they be approved yet the assembly is divided? (Hata akichagua deputy na assembly imegawanyika atapitishiwa wapi?)," he posed.
Anti-corruption court magistrate Douglas Ogoti while releasing him from police custody on Wednesday, barred Sonko from accessing his office.
