The Senate Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has issued an arrest warrant against Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua after he defied three summons.
The Tuesday directive by the committee chaired by Homabay Senator Moses Kajwang' forced the governor to issue a quick response explaining why he did not appear before it.
"I am currently out of the country and SURPRISED that even after informing the Senate PAIC committee of the same a while back, they have again SECRETLY met without NOTICE to me or my Govt & continued to perpetuate an AGENDA to show me in bad light even though THEY KNOW I am away," Mutua wrote on Twiter.
PAC has ordered Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai to arrest Governor Mutua within 14 days and present him before it.
The directive states that if the IG fails to present Mutua within the stipulated time, he will face criminal charges.
Mutua has, however, has maintained that he informed PAC that he was not in the country and could not make it.
"I have SEVERALLY INFORMED the Senate PAIC committee that I have ALWAYS been ready and willing to appear before them and do NOT need to be compelled to PERFORM my civic duties as a LAW abiding citizen," Mutua tweeted.
