Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i could be in a limbo even as his bid to unite Abagusii community continues to gather momentum.

On Sunday, Governor John Nyagarama admitted that a host of leaders from both Nyamira and Kisii Counties will be accompanying Matiang'i to the region when he tours on Friday.

"The unity quest is unstoppable. We have agreed as a team that we shall welcome him home. We expect more projects to be launched and nothing will stop us from supporting him," he said.

Dr Matiang'i will be commissioning Matutu and Keroka Police Stations both in Nyamira before moving to Kenyenya in Kisii for the same event. He had postponed the function in June when DP William Ruto visited Nyamira.

But the exclusion of ODM leaders from the region, some close to Raila Odinga, could be the major undoing of the powerful minister given that he's riding on the handshake.

In an interview, ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire on Saturday expressed reservation on Matiang'i's trips, but insisted that such moves could backlash.

"Do you think it's really going to succeed? Is everyone involved in the process of unity? As for me, we are busy strengthened our ODM party and nothing more," he said.

ODM Chairman Sam Omwando early this month said Dr Matiang'i's efforts would hit a snug. He accused ODM elected leaders of going against party principles.

"They should strictly support the handshake. Supporting someone yet the party could fill a candidate is wrong. This is a matter we want addressed and possibly action taken," he said.

Kisii Woman Representative Janet Ong'era, Senators Okong'o Mogeni and Sam Ongeri along with Governors John Nyagarama and Elvis Ongwae are among leaders backing Dr Matiang'i's bid.
