A member of the Nakuru County Assembly has faulted the Building Bridges Initiative recommendation to have a National Health Commission employ health personnel but be paid by the counties.
According to the recommendations of the BBI report, there shall be the formation of the Health Commission that will be mandated with matters human resource.
However, addressing the media on Wednesday in Nakuru, Elburgon Ward MCA Njuguna Mwaura who doubles up as the Health Committee Chair in the county assembly of Nakuru argued that such a move will create confusion in the counties.
The MCA, while supporting the devolution of health services said the sector has several pillars including the human resource and that separating them between the two levels of governments will cause more harm than good.
He adds that when it comes to matters of health counties should be allowed to play their role without being gagged by the national government and that the proposal is aimed at influencing the doctors to support the BBI.
“The recommendation to have HR services to the National Health Commission will create more confusion in counties especially on matters of resources since the reports recommend that the counties will still have to pay the staff," said Mwaura.
The Elburgon Ward MCA has also challenged the national government to ensure improved health services that fall under the national docket.
He argues that the referral facilities which fall under the national government should be taken to the next level to ensure no more Kenyans go to India to seek health services.
“Let the national government play its role on matters of health and ensure the referrals are in a good state," he remarked.
