Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho has reacted to the fire that razed down Kongowea market on Saturday night.
Writing on Twitter Sunday evening, the county boss said that the reconstruction of the market would be financed by the county government.
The reconstruction work will be done through the county's Trade and Investment department.
"This morning a huge fire razed down stalls at the Kongowea Market in Nyali Sub-county. The County Government of Mombasa through the department of Trade and Investment will immediately reconstruct the stalls and help those affected to get back to business, " Governor Joho's tweet read.
The section where Mitumba clothes are sold is said to have caught fire with traders losing millions of shillings as a result.
It is not yet clear what touched off the fire, whether it was accidental or a case of arson.
Law enforcement officers have launched investigations to determine the exact circumstances of the inferno.
Earlier in the day, the Mombasa deputy governor William Kingi visited the market to assess the damage that had been done by the inferno.
He said that the names of the affected traders would have their names collected.
Kongowea Market is the largest market in the entire coastal region.
