During a presser on Tuesday at the assembly precincts, Oraro who is the acting Speaker at the County Assembly of Kisumu said he has no option as his colleagues want him to fully seek the position of the speaker, adding that majority have declared to support him.

“I don’t have powers to be a speaker if I have not been chosen by members but if they have confidence in me, then I have no option but to go for it,” said Oraro.

Oraro said the law states that every county assembly must have a speaker, saying it is members who decide to re-elect the speaker or allow the acting speaker to work till the end.

According to North West Kisumu Ward Representative and Kisumu West Sub-County MCAs leader Vincent Onyango alias ‘Choppa’ they declared support for Oraro.

“As the MCAs from Kisumu West Sub-County, we have no one to support other than Elisha Jack Oraro. In fact, we will not hold elections but confirm him as the Speaker of the county assembly of Kisumu,” said Onyango.

Other members of the assembly who promised to rally behind the current acting speaker include; Beatrice Odongo, Johannes Guya, Maureen Atyang, Paul Okiri, David Arao, and Seth Okumu.

The Kisumu County MCAs are yet to conduct another election after firing Speaker Onyango Oloo last year.
