President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday fired warning shots to politicians opposed to his initiatives, arguing that he cannot succumb to pressure from anyone.
In an apparent reference to a raft of changes expected through Building Bridges Initiative, Uhuru asked politicians to stop being petty and face issues objectively.
Uhuru said he's focused to stamp his authority by rolling out mega projects, adding that he's not concerned with people he termed as his critics.
“Some people have claimed I am under pressure because of politics. I am too busy working and have no time for politicking," he said.
He said the main purpose of BBI is to unite Kenyans and to create an inclusive system where everyone will be part of the government.
“You cannot be a united progressive country if certain people feel that they have been left out or are being left behind,” Uhuru said.
He urged politicians to stop assuming BBI is meant to create positions for certain individuals, adding that the sole purpose is to unite Kenyans.
Deputy President William Ruto has already shown signs of opposing the recommendations of BBI report, arguing that the constitution cannot be changed by few individuals in hotels.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga, the architect of the changes, has been working closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta for the past 18 months.
