Speaking on Thursday to members of the press, the outspoken governing Jubilee party legislator said that he was being sought to write some statements.

"When I was being hunted down and I am surprised that they are still hunting me down. They still want me to write other statements, " he said.

Senator Cherargei called on the DCI to stop engaging in political persecution.

A few weeks ago he was bundled into a DCI vehicle at his Eldoret home and carted away for questioning over public remarks he made that were widely interpreted as inciteful.

The Nandi senator is among a section of Rift Valley leaders who are strongly opposed to the ongoing Mau Forest evictions that have been the subject of rancorous public debate.

In the press conference, he branded the Mau eviction as the trampling of the rights of people to own property.

Environment Cabinet secretary Keriako Tobiko has remained adamant that the settlers in the important water catchment area must move or risk eviction.

Calls for dialogue with a view of stopping the evictions appear to have fallen flat so far.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Dr William Ruto have, by and large, remained mum on the vexed issue.
