Days after being criticised for introducing questionable allowances, MPs have once again come up with another plot to get money from the taxpayer.
This time, they are creating a special fund that will facilitate their wining and dining in five-star hotels, which translates to more tax burden on the taxpayer.
This follows the formation of the Parliamentary Catering Fund, which will see among others, parliament chefs trained to international catering standards.
The lawmakers will also enjoy some of the finest meals and drinks brought to them from the leading five-star hotels across the city.
The same has since been approved by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi who signed the new regulations on June 24, meaning that the changes are already being effected.
In defence of the move, National Assembly Clerk Michael Sialai says that the fund will only be used when necessary, and will also be used to procure catering material for Parliament.
“Otherwise the fund will generate funds for itself,” Sialai said days after the legislators began a push for night allowances, after a prior Sh250, 000 house allowance.
