Lawyer Donald Kipkorir has accused some teachers of hypocrisy as the row between Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) escalates.
In a tweet on Thursday, Kipkorir said that it is interesting to note that more than 18,000 teachers shifted from Knut to Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) following a row to eject Wilson Sossion.
The lawyer wondered why the teachers left Knut for Kuppet because Sossion, who is the Knut secretary-general, is an MP yet Kuppet is also headed by someone with political ties.
“Teachers who are KNUT members allegedly are revolting against Wilson Sossion, their SG bec he is an MP ... 18,000 (paltry number as teachers are over 250,000) of them are said to have moved to KUPPET where Omboko Milemba, its Chair is also an MP. Teachers are Cheap Hypocrites!" he tweeted.
Sossion has affirmed that he will not leave office despite pressure from different quarters. The Knut boss has vowed to remain put even as the row escalates.
“No employer can choose leaders for a trade union because that will be the beginning of the death of that particular union and the labour movement. So fundamentally what’s happening is an attack on the trade union movement which is wrong,” said Sossion as quoted by Capital FM.
