Speaking on Sunday, the former Premier said that persons opposed to the same are afraid of losing their current state privileges, and are doing it at the expense of Kenyans.

He termed the persons out to block changes set to be brought about by the initiative for the sake of keeping their current powers, for fear that it will spoil things for them in the 2022 polls.

“Those who are opposing the handshake are doing so because they are enjoying the raw power and want to retain it after the next elections,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

The statement was read on his behalf by Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, during a Lenya Methodist Church thanksgiving function at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

Raila also hinted that the BBI report will result in a referendum, urging leaders to tally behind it as it will solve the nation's current shortcomings, including  tribalism and corruption.

He said that it's time Kenyans received better services from their government through the BBI, further lauding his truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta dubbed the handshake.

"The handshake has united Kenyans and brought peace. It has also disrupted corruption activities and its time to ensure Kenyans receive good services from their government," he added.

Leading the anti-BBI side has been Deputy President William Ruto, whose presidentisl ambitions for the 2022 polls arw already well known by Kenyans.

However, the DP seems to be softening his heart towards the Uhuru-Raila founded initiative lately
