For weeks, locals have questioned the government's commitment towards cracking whip on criminals who had reportedly paralysed business in the region.

And in heroic reception at the hometown of his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta, Dr Matiang'i fired shots at the security organs, ordering for transfer of police chiefs.

The Interior Minister also insisted that the government will not tolerate criminal activities in the region, ordering immediate crackdown.

"The government will not tolerate any form of criminal activity. In collaboration with security organs, we'll work towards the sustenance of security and repression of any form of crime in Kiambu County. Wananchi must be left to conduct their businesses peacefully," he said.

“It is our job to be awake at night so that wananchi sleep peacefully. We are going to comb this place, and we will be hard on these criminals,” he added.

Dr Matiang'i was accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr James Nyoro, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, IG Hillary Mutyambai and Woman Representative Gathoni wa Muchomba.

President Uhuru Kenyatta served as MP for Gatundu South for 10 years, having been elected for the first time in 2002. Currently, Moses Kuria is keen to succeed Uhuru.

But it's the huge crowds which thrilled city lawyer Wahome Thuku, who has been criticising Deputy President William Ruto. Dr Matiang'i is under pressure from his Nyamira backyard to run for Presidency.

"CS Fred Matiangi in Kiambu. And no he had not called a rally. No he is not a politician, just a CS. No he is not campaigning yet. As I said, pulling of crowds is nothing big. Iam about to pull you to comment down here, prove me wrong," he noted.
