Speaking during the launch of countdown to census 2019 at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) on Friday, the president also requested various stakeholders to join hands in ensuring the drive is successful.

“I urge all political and religious leaders, the business community, the media and civil societies to use their platforms to encourage all persons within their spheres to cooperate fully to ensure the census is a success,” President Uhuru stated.

The President also communicated the importance of the activity citing that data collected will be used in the equitable distribution of resources.

“The exercise will be the first since devolution and will be useful in devolution since it will guide the equitable distribution of resources and also guide delineation of boundaries in constituencies and wards,” President Uhuru added.

President Uhuru added that there will be a special focus on minority groups including people living with disability, street families among others during the exercise. According to Uhuru, there shall be no discrimination throughout the entire activity.

“The fruits of development must be accessible to all and without discrimination. We must ensure Kenyans access opportunities in an equitable manner,” he maintained.
