Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen who also doubles up as the leader of the majority in parliament has asked senators to cancel their plans for festivities.
This move comes after the troubled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was impeached by Kiambu Members of County Assembly.
"To all Senators please cancel your Christmas and new year travel plans. Those already out of the country take the next flight back home. Duty calls!" he tweeted.
In an interview, the lawyer said that the Senate is expected to review Governors' impeachment within seven days in reference to standing orders.
"Due to Waititu's impeachment, the seven days begin to run and as a result, the timelines will be within this Christmas period," Murkomen stated.
Is Senator Murkomen able to call for a special sitting? This question was answered by Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka who told Senator Sakaja that only the leader of majority or minority is able to call for a special sitting to discuss the matters facing Nairobi.
This means that Murkomen has the powers to call for a special sitting to determine Waititu's fate.
Waititu said that the MCAs who impeached him were less than the required number by the constitution.
"They did not meet the threshold. It is all fixed and I will not let them have their way. If you saw what was happening, you understand that it is pure lies." Waititu said.
The governor was impeached after being accused of misappropriating funds meant for county development.
